What it Means to TO YOUR BEST! {Our Norm of the Week!}

To do your best in school work don't always talk because talking distracts you from your work. (Jackson)

Doing your best is when you try not to do the bare minimum or not do it at all,Doing your best is not giving up on something. Doing your best is taking the long way not the short cut. (Chloe)

Doing your best is maybe getting everything wrong but you still tried to get everything right. (Andrea)

I think I can work hard and do my best by putting a lot of time and effort into my work. I should also take all this seriously, and worry about my grades more than talking to my friends or goofing off in some sort of way, because surly, it will all pay off. (Chris)

If you get lazy and don't try your best because you think you already know something,your grades will begin to drop. Trying your best shouldn't be warranted by trying to get good grades all the time. you should try your best because it can help you. (Jonathan)

Reflections on Our Classroom Norm of the Week

If you are disrespectful  then you are showing others the wrong way to be.So be respectful all the time and be disrespectful none of the time. It is important for us all to work together on this. Lets not let anyone down on this. (Dylan)

It says a lot about you if you are respectful to someone. (Porter)

Ways to respect people is to compliment them or to help people and listen to them. (Julianna)

Some ways you can be respectful are.If someone asks a question you think is funny don't laugh out loud. If someone got hurt help them them get to the nurse . If someone lost something help them
find it. (Connor)

One way to be respectful (or considerate) is to be open minded and always hear people out! For example, say you're working in a group and you have your heart set on one idea, and you aren't letting anybody else speak. That isn't respectful. You should let everybody say what they're thinking. (Lindsay)

If you make a mistake by harting  someones feeing then say you are sorry. That is a kind way of being respectful. Always act with a kind heart. (Riley)

You want to be respected you should be respectful so people will be respectful to you. (Magali)

Be respectful to others makes you a role model to everybody. Once you are being respectful to someone, people will notice you doing that and will do it themselves. Thats how you become a role model to the community. (Johann)

If you do not be nice to each other the class room is going to be a negative zone full of hatred. I want my class room full of happiness. (Declan)

The Classroom is Coming Along...

While you are enjoying your last bits of Summer break, I am getting our classroom ready to go! It is still a big mess but is getting better everyday.

Preparing You: 5 Things You Can Do to Get Ready for 5th Grade

1. Practice your multiplication facts. This is the best thing you can do to help you grasp 5th math! The goal is to know them by heart. Maybe these games will help you.

2. Read everyday. The more active reading you do the better you get at it. Think about what you're reading; have ideas. Ideas are proof of active reading.

3. Try some writing prompts to build your skills. Check out this fun Story Starter Scrambler if you're feeling uninspired. Pay attention to quality (how meaningful your writing is) and quantity (how much you are able to write).

4. Get organized. Set some goals about improving your organization skills. These are very important in the 5th grade. Set up a homework spot with what you need to be free of distractions. Think of organization as an art!

5. Increase your vocabulary. Don't use the same words over and over again. While reading, find some new, fancy words and look them up in the dictionary. Then, add them to the word bank in your head. Try them out in your writing or while speaking. They'll become "yours" soon enough.
